Coastal Security and Risk Management Using GIS and Spatial Analysis
Project Description
With over 240,000km of coastline, Canada depends much on it's surrounding oceans and lakes, which define its geography and dive a lot of its economic prosperity. Consequently coast security and safety are a major issue for this maritime territory. The current post-9/11 priority is largely centred on terrorism, yet safeguarding also encompasses protection against a range of illegal activities, as well as preservation of the coastal environment.
Our challenge is to provide usable tools, as well as land and marine data to meet the requirements of agencies in charge of coastal risk management and monitoring. To do so, we will develope software programs and traffic simulations dedicated to geographic information analyses and tailor them to coastal security particularities, in terms of access, usage and vulnerability.
